Survey Results For 2012

The results were very encouraging - confirming that what we do is relevant and benefits the membership. Thank you to those who also provided additional comments and suggestions. We will do our best to implement / trial many of the suggestions.

Yellow Panther Has Landed at Glasgow Airport
Glasgow Airport has unveiled details of a £1.8 million investment programme which will see it purchase three state-of-the-art fire appliances over the course of the next two years.
On Friday 20 January 2012, Glasgow became the first airport in Scotland to take delivery of a new Rosenbauer CA5 Panther fire appliance and Derek Mackay MSP for Renfrewshire North and West was on-hand to help mark the occasion.

Renfrewshire Chamber recently presented Street Stuff with a cheque for £2,500, its share of funds raised at the Chambers annual business awards, the ROCCOs. The donation will go towards a special celebration event for regular users of the award winning Street Stuff programme.
Street Stuff is a mobile partnership service that provides a range of youth activities across Renfrewshire, including street football, youth gym and dance workshops

SCC Comment On Scottish Budget
Both the Scottish and UK Governments are facing tough decisions in terms of how best to allocate limited levels of public spending in an attempt to bolster an economic recovery. We welcome the broad tone of the Scottish budget within this context and in particular we welcome the additional funds that the Government have identified for investment in capital infrastructure. This is a sensible use of resources that will bring long term dividends for the Scottish economy, especially in terms of the investment in broadband connectivity, transport and housing. .

SCC Welcomes Extension of QE
It seems clear that inflationary pressures are receding and this has given the Bank of England the opportunity to extend its programme of Quantitative Easing further this month. That is a sensible move at a time when the previous extension of the asset purchase scheme, announced last October, is coming to an end. With continuing uncertainty facing the economy in the near term, this has to be the right decision.

This is an important contribution to the ongoing campaign to bring High Speed Rail to Scotland. With the UK Government having given a firm go-ahead for the HS2 line between London and the West Midlands, it is imperative that Scotland does not get left behind and end up proportionately further away from London than we are already. We must be beneficiaries, not victims, of High Speed Rail.
